Pedagogy

Kanasu World School (KWS) is a proposed coeducational day school from Lower Kindergarten to Class 12, soon to be affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Our aim is to provide world class yet affordable education balancing academic excellence with sports and co-curricular expertise.

KWS not only aims at providing equal opportunity to girls and boys but specially encourages girls to think, speak and act as the social and academic equals of boys. Girls can become as good as if not better leaders and team members than boys in all fields. Students learn to develop gender sensitivity in their daily interactions at school and elsewhere, gaining mature and balanced attitudes to gender related issues.

KWS believes in the gradual and natural age-appropriate development of learning skills and strategies at an individual pace. Children should not be pressured with private tuition/coaching for short term results. Instead, they should seek help from their teachers and engage in peer-learning at school. They should develop the patience to persevere in resolving tough academic challenges. In this way, they become independent, self-confident and eager learners. Their own success is the best reward that motivates further effort, leading them to excel in academics as well as co-curricular activities. KWS therefore, promotes cooperation with all and competition with oneself to exceed previous achievements.

The basic ethos outlined above is practised at KWS in the Pre Primary, Primary, Secondary and Senior Secondary levels. Each of these four levels has a specialised curriculum, supported by academic and activity facilities that are customized to cater to the specific needs of that particular age group, such as Library and Resource Centre, Computer and Science Laboratories, Multiple Intelligence Centres, Play Area, etc.

The KWS curriculum is primarily based on the Syllabus prescribed by the NCERT-CBSE. It is enriched moreover, with the teaching and research experience and expertise of over thirty years, enhanced with Multiple Intelligences inputs, Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy outcomes, and Experiential Learning that focus on the individual needs of learners. Classroom lessons are further supported by special Assemblies and Clubs that foster learning current in the 21stcentury.

KWS recognizes both effort as well as achievement. Student progress is reported to parents in 4 Reports annually. Continuous and Comprehensive Graded Evaluation as prescribed in previous National Curriculum Frameworks (NCF) and in the latest National Education Policy (NEP) is followed from Nursery to Class 5. The teachers evaluate all written and oral work of students in class without pressurising them. In Classes 6-12, a Marks-based Grades system is followed as the outcome of Written, Oral and Practical Tests and Exams, as per the latest NEP guidelines followed by CBSE. At all levels, a high attendance level is a must for a student to achieve good scores and grades.

The Pre-Primary level focuses on student socialisation with peer groups and teachers through various learning activities, alongside introduction to language literacy and numeracy skills and physical fitness and agility. The Primary Level focuses on students acquiring basic competency skills in Languages, Mathematics, and Scientific, General and Financial awareness in addition to a range of co-curricular activities and fitness sports. The Secondary and Senior Secondary levels, in addition to CBSE prescribed co-curricular activity and academics, prepare students to appear for the CBSE Board Examinations in a stress free environment, conducive to maximum realisation of individual potential, through regular and spaced out weekly tests and term examinations.

Mens sana in corpore sano or a healthy mind in a fit body is the motto here. KWS focuses on a combination of physical health and hygiene and mental wellbeing. Activity and Sports Coaches teach students from the beginning, the importance of physical fitness, strength, endurance, agility, speed and especially, healthy competition, sportsmanship and team spirit. It is important not only to win but also to accept setbacks without anger or dejection. Instrumental and Vocal Music, Dance and Art and Craft promote the growth of artistic talent. A range of indoor and outdoor Sports provide students with the physical challenge to develop skills and stamina.
