Dr. Sanjukta Sivakumar was educated at Kolkata in Modern High School for Girls, Lady Brabourne College and Calcutta University and additionally, at CIEFL (Hyderabad) and MS University, Vadodara.  She gained admission for higher studies to Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University, UK. Her qualifications (M.A. Ph.D., English) span both literature and language. 
She has taught English at MHS, Kolkata, and been a Lecturer (English) at Loreto College, Kolkata and then at Gauhati University in Assam.  Her growing interest in language teaching-learning and in action research brought her into school teaching again as Head of Department, English at the Assam Valley School, a mega-educational joint project by Williamson-Magor Trust and the Khaitans.   

In 2003 she became Education Consultant to Nalanda Education Society in Surat and DPS Surat. During this time, she was also a Guest Lecturer in English at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT).  In 2009, Dr. Sivakumar became the Founder Principal of Delhi Public School Tapi, Surat and remained in the post until 2023.  She continued as an Education Consultant until she became a Founder Director of Kanasu World School in 2025.  

Dr. Sanjukta Sivakumar has spent most of her career engaged in teaching, research, writing and teacher education.  Her personal interests are art, music, wildlife, photography (including astrophotography) and reading.  A gold medallist herself, she yet does not believe that high academic achievement should be the sole target of learning but that it is equally important to acquire problem-solving strategies and skills, to develop physical fitness habits leading to a healthy and balanced lifestyle, and to grow a social conscience and political and environmental awareness, along with principles and values that extend from the personal to the professional domain.   Dr. Sivakumar’s contribution to KWS, in addition to her experiential know-how, her attention to detail, empathy and work ethos, are her language skills.
